Awards for Graham and Cheryl!

At Pine Rivers Orchid Society’s May 2025 Meeting, well known Brisbane northside orchid growers, Graham and Cheryl Round, were presented with their recent Awards by North Moreton orchid judge, Robert Reitano.

Their orchid, Dendrobium tangerinum, a species Dendrobium orchid native to Papua New Guinea, won an HCC/CCC – NMQOC, HCC/CCC – ANOS Kabi at the Aspley Orchid Society May 2025 Show. These letters mean the plant won a Highly Commended Certificate and a Certificate of Cultural Commendation. The plant was awarded by both ANOS Kabi and North Moreton Qld Orchid Council.  The plant also won Champion of Show, Champion Specimen and Champion Species!

Congratulations to Cheryl and Graham!

The winning plant

  • The plant above is Dendrobium tangerinum,

Graham and Cheryl's plant.

  • This is a species plant - the plant grows just like this in it's native habitat in Papua New Guinea.
  • It is known as a spatulata type or antelope type Dendrobium - the flowers have twisty horns!
  • In PNG, the orchid grows on small trees or cliff faces from sea level to 1250 metres elevation.
  • We look forward to this plant's next flowering in May 2026. We know Graham and Cheryl will ensure the plant's continued good health and excellent flowering.
  • Correct watering - and fertilising at the right times -  can produce award winning orchids!
